Terms of use
Plain version: Sealcloak keeps your files private, and because we can never see them, we can’t get them back for you. Look after your pattern and your recovery phrase.
Acceptance of terms
By downloading, installing or using Sealcloak (“the app”), you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the app.
What the app is
Sealcloak is an encrypted file vault for Android. It encrypts your photos, videos, documents, audio, notes and scans on your phone, with keys that come from your pattern. We do not run servers that store your files, pattern or keys, and the app cannot connect to the internet. Backups are files you create and keep yourself.
Your responsibilities
- Remember your pattern. It is what unlocks each vault.
- Save your recovery phrase. At setup you receive a recovery phrase for each vault. Store it somewhere safe and private, ideally on paper. It is the way back in if you forget your pattern.
- Keep your own backups. Use the app’s encrypted backup, and keep the file, and its phrase or passphrase, somewhere safe. Removing the app, clearing its data, or losing or resetting your phone removes the vaults stored on it.
- Use it lawfully. You may use the app only for lawful purposes and in line with the laws that apply to you.
- Your content is yours to answer for. You are solely responsible for what you store in the app.
No data recovery
Because the encryption happens on your phone, we never hold a key that can open your vault. If you lose both your pattern and your recovery phrase, and have no unlocked copy or usable backup, nobody can open that vault, including us. Support cannot bypass this, and there is no account to reset.
Free plan and Sealcloak Pro
- The free plan includes 3 vaults, 100 photos, 10 videos, 10 documents and 10 audio files.
- Sealcloak Pro removes those limits and adds extras such as calculator disguise, a custom icon and erase after wrong patterns. It is available as an in-app purchase through Google Play.
- If a free trial is offered and you do not cancel before it ends, Google Play charges for the subscription.
- Purchases are billed by Google Play and are subject to Google’s terms and refund policies. We do not handle your payment details.
- You can manage or cancel a subscription in the Google Play app, under Payments and subscriptions. Deleting the app does not cancel it.
- If a subscription ends, nothing you stored is deleted. Pro-only features stop working, and the free-plan limits apply to new additions.
Coerce, and erasing data
Coerce is a second vault with its own pattern, meant for situations where you are forced to unlock the app. By default it is a harmless decoy and erases nothing. You can separately choose to let it erase your other vaults when it is opened, and you can set the app to erase everything after a number of wrong patterns in a row. Both are off by default and need you to type the word PERMIT to turn them on. Erasing is permanent and cannot be undone, and it may make a vault impossible to open on that phone. Backups and copies you made yourself are not touched. We are not liable for data loss or loss of access that comes from using these features on purpose or by accident, including if someone else draws the wrong pattern.
Intruder photos
If you turn on intruder photos, the app photographs wrong attempts with the front camera and keeps the pictures encrypted on your phone. You are responsible for using this lawfully where you live, including any rules about photographing other people.
Intellectual property
The app and this website, including their design, code, name, branding, text and graphics, belong to Sealcloak or are used with permission. You get a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use the app for personal purposes under these terms. They do not allow you to copy, resell or reverse-engineer the app, or to reuse our website content, except where the law gives you that right. Your files remain yours.
Disclaimer of warranties
The app is provided “as is”, without warranty of any kind. We do not promise that it will be uninterrupted or error-free, or that every defect will be fixed. We use well-established encryption (AES-256-GCM and Argon2id), but no security system is absolute, and a weak or guessable pattern, a phone that is already compromised, or a lost recovery phrase can still put your files at risk. Use the app at your own risk.
Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent the law allows, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages arising from your use of the app, including data loss, unauthorised access, or being unable to open your vault. Where the law does not allow a limit, our liability is limited to the smallest amount it permits.
Changes to these terms
We may change these terms from time to time. Changes take effect when posted on this page, with a new date at the top. If you keep using the app after a change, you accept the new terms.
