How to brighten a photo

Why this looks natural
Simply adding brightness makes everything lighter, including skies and faces that were already bright, so they turn white and lose detail. This tool brightens with a curve instead: dark areas are lifted a lot, mid-tones a little, and highlights hardly at all. That's how phone editors and photo apps fix underexposed pictures, and it keeps the photo looking real.
Getting the best result
- Very dark night photos carry noise; brighten moderately and add a little contrast rather than pushing brightness to the top.
- Photos taken against a window: brighten until the face looks right and accept that the window stays bright.
- Old scanned prints: raise Colour a touch to undo fading.

Will brightening make my photo look grainy?
Dark photos already contain grain that you can't see until they're brightened. Lift brightness moderately and add a little contrast for the cleanest look.
Does it save at full resolution?
Yes. You edit on a quick preview, and the download applies the same settings to the original full-size photo.
What does Auto fix do?
It measures how dark the photo is overall and sets brightness, contrast and colour to bring it to a natural level. You can adjust each slider afterwards.
